Versions & Updates

Two kinds of version describe a Xisom box. The release version is the release bundle you installed. The build version is the version compiled into each component. Check the release version first after an update or when something behaves unexpectedly.

Open Settings → About. It shows:

RowWhat it is
ReleaseThe release bundle installed on this box, for example v1.58.4. This is the version of the box.
Frontend VersionThe build version of the dashboard loaded in your browser.
Frontend CommitThe source commit of that dashboard build.
Backend VersionThe build version of the running backend, with its commit.
Build DateWhen the dashboard was built.
EnvironmentThe dashboard’s build mode, production on a shipped box.

The sidebar and the sign-in screen show the same release version.

The installer writes the release version when it installs or updates the box. It reads the version from the bundle, not from the images. If the box was installed before release reporting existed, the Release row shows the build version instead, and a hint next to it says so. The next update fills it in.

You can also read both versions from the health endpoint:

Terminal window
curl -s http://<box-ip>/api/system/health
# → { "version": "...", "commit": "...", "buildTime": "...", "releaseVersion": "v1.58.4", ... }

releaseVersion is the release. version is the backend build version.

A release rebuilds only the components that changed. A component that did not change is carried into the new release as it was, and it keeps the build version of the release that last changed it. So after an update:

  • Release reads the release you installed.
  • Frontend Version and Backend Version can be older than the release.
  • They can also differ from each other.

None of this means the update failed. The release version is the one that tells you what the box is running.

When the frontend and backend build versions differ, the Backend Version row is highlighted, with a hint to refresh the page or redeploy.

Operationally:

  • Stale browser tab — hard-refresh the dashboard (or close and reopen it).
  • Warning stays after a refresh — check the Release row. If it reads the release you installed, the difference is expected.
  • Release row is not the release you installed — the update did not complete. Re-run it. See Offline Bundle Install → Update.
  1. Re-open Settings → About.
  2. Confirm the Release row reads the version you installed.
  3. If a mismatch warning shows, hard-refresh. If the release is wrong, re-run the update.
  • Persistent version mismatch after a refresh and re-update — see the Troubleshooting runbook.
